Church of Saint Luke, The Beloved Physician
"From Our Community to Yours"

Volunteers of St. Luke’s Parish in Saranac Lake, NY worked with the Diocese of Mississippi to identify an Episcopal Parish in its diocese. They selected Laurel, MS. with whom we are working directly to help provide relief and support to victims of hurricane Katrina. Ann Morgan and Janet Simpkins returned Monday, September 12, midday and reported good progress there and brought abundant gratitude from the folks in Laurel. The damage in Laurel is not water, but 1-2 houses in each block have been destroyed by downed trees. One of the major problems there is what to do with all the wood from the destruction and fallen trees. Ann and Janet gathered other information on the needs in Laurel. St. John’s Episcopal Church, under the guidance of Father Stan Reynolds is operating as a central location for the entire county. Gas prices are limiting the number of trips we are taking. It cost $1000 for this trip, which was donated by a variety of donors including individuals, Hyde Fuel and WNBZ.

Now that we are in direct contact with Fr. Reynolds we have a better understanding of the needs there. We will take one more truck load and then continue to stimulate fundraising to meet direct needs of the people in Laurel and surrounding areas. They presently have about 200 displaced families.

WE STILL NEED A BOX TRUCK FOR THE TRIP.

This Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm, September 16-17, 9-4. only. This Saturday, September 17 is the last day we will be accepting supplies.
